BIOGRAPHY

During the early 1970's, Butabika Hospital reached its peak of functioning in terms of patient care and efficiency. However, prevailing conditions, due to bad governance and economic decline, which started in the mid 1970's like any other Institutions in Uganda, the hospital, suffered and had its share of destruction during those 25 years.

In the early 1990's, the local leadership of Nakawa Division coordinated the earliest effort of rehabilitation of the Hospital infrastructure and sensitization programmes of the sick, which paved a way for other well-wishers like British Council and other NGO's and development partners to support the hospital recover. This stimulated the NRM Government's keen interest in reviving the mental health services countrywide and Butabika Hospital taking on its role as a National referral Hospital.

This revived the morale of staff which gave a good impetus to staff and management, in turn improved and maintained a good care of patients' to date.
